“Everything moves so fast at Topshop. I could get an email one morning from our Brand team at HQ that changes the shape of my day. We might have a new promotion on, or a trend we need to push. As Store Manager I have to get that information to my team and keep them motivated on their shifts. I’m also involved with all the nitty-gritty of operations, keeping back of house ticking over – a lot goes on behind the scenes.
I love working in a core store – you can get involved in a huge variety of things. And I have so much ownership here; working here feels like running my own business. Compared to other retailers we get a lot of creative freedom at Topshop. Of course, we’re told what the trends are, but we can put our own spin on them. I really like challenging the mannequin styling and store layout. When I’m arranging products, I always keep our customer in mind: what would she like to wear? How would she style this piece?
My stand-out experience with Topshop has to be working on ‘model store’, which shapes the visual direction of our stores each season. It’s a big privilege to be chosen to do it: you have to show you’ve got creative flair and an eye for the trends. I just love the products, and that Topshop is such a world-wide success.
