The Life of a Brand Manager

Mark – Brand Manager at TOPSHOP, Oxford Circus flagship

“I’m constantly feeding back ideas to my team on how to push our products. I manage bags, accessories, over thirty concessions – and a team of 40. I’ve got big targets to meet and ultimately, the sales are down to me, so I’m always thinking of ways to make my department stand out. It’s so big I feel like I’ve got my own store! I love getting tips from the visual team, rearranging things, trying new layouts. As it’s our Oxford Circus flagship, I’ve got space to be really creative – plus shoppers expect something new every time.

My General Manager told me I should think about applying for the role. It’s all about showing you’ve got the right attitude – a skill you can’t teach! The step up’s been huge, but I’m already getting stuck in. My best moment was our Kate Moss launch – the store totally transforms in the run up to new designer collections. It’s phenomenal. And I love our Brand parties. There are some amazing prizes for retail teams – it feels like the MTV awards! If you’re prepared to put the work in, you can achieve anything you want here – there’s a really clear path to success.”
